Start and choose a language
Extract the entire application ZIP and run CUTROOM.exe. Keep the EXE with the other files in its folder.
On first launch, start setup to download the video engine (about 110 MB). Internet is needed for this step; afterwards you can edit offline. The packaged app needs no separate Node.js or Python installation.
Settings → Language offers Japanese, English, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Thai, Indonesian and Vietnamese. Changes apply immediately and persist. Media names, project names and entered captions are not translated.
Screen layout and first project
Media is on the left, preview in the center, clip settings on the right and the timeline below. The red vertical line is the playhead.
Basic workflow: import media → add it to the timeline → trim → adjust titles and audio → save the project → export MP4. Enter a project name at the top.
Import and place media
Choose Import video, images or audio, or drop files into the import area. The limit is 4 GB per file. Editing does not directly overwrite your original files.
Use + Add or + Overlay on imported media, or drag its thumbnail/name to a track. Video dropped on V1 is appended to the end. Overlay and audio tracks use the drop time. An image dropped on V1 goes to V2.
V1 is the main video, V2 and above are overlays, and T holds titles. Linked video audio has a corresponding audio track. You can also add independent music or narration.
Add tracks and resize the timeline
Right-click a track header or the track column and choose Add audio track or Add video / overlay track. Video and independent audio each support up to 32 tracks.
Track height starts at 50%. Use Track height for vertical sizing and Time zoom for timeline scale. Drag the divider between preview and timeline to resize their areas.
Play, trim and split
Select a clip and use Play or Space to play/stop. Seek using the timeline ruler or red playhead. Shortcuts behave differently while editing text fields.
Enter Start/End under Trim range, or drag the selected clip’s edges. You can also set the start or end to the current playhead position.
Select the clip, move the playhead and choose Split at playhead. Keep the split at least 0.1 seconds from either edge. Select an unwanted resulting clip and delete it.
V1 follows clip order; use Order to rearrange it. Removing or moving a V1 clip closes the gap. Check independent audio, title and overlay positions afterwards.
Clip audio versus track audio
Click an individual clip to control its audio on the right. Clip audio lets you show or hide its audio track. Hiding a track does not mute it; set volume to 0% to silence it.
Click the track header on the left to control audio for the entire track. Confirm that the panel says Track audio before applying a track-wide change.
Linked video and audio edit together. Use Unlink clip audio before moving audio independently. After unlinking, check synchronization.
Volume, fades and master output
Clip volume ranges from 0–200%. Set Fade in/Fade out durations in seconds; 0 disables a fade. A compressor reduces loud peaks to even out dynamics.
Open Master output below the preview for overall volume, left/right meters and master compression. 100% is the reference level. Reduce volume if the display reaches or exceeds 0 dB.
After changes such as compressor settings, playback may wait for audio preparation. Master volume can be adjusted during playback.
Titles
Choose Title in the bottom toolbar. Set text, display start/end, position, size, color and outline on the right. Line breaks are supported. Position is the center of the text, expressed as a percentage of the frame.
Drag the title along the T track to change its timing. Use Delete title to remove it. Titles beyond the end of V1 do not extend the export.
Overlays, rotation and effects
Add a video or image to an overlay track, then adjust position, width and opacity. Higher-numbered video tracks appear in front; newer items on the same track appear in front.
Rotate & crop offers 90° rotation steps and edge cropping. Under Blur & mosaic, select an effect, strength and region, then Apply effect. The region is fixed; automatic tracking is not provided.
For Chroma key, enable Make selected color transparent, choose the key color and adjust tolerance/edge softness, then apply. Use an overlay track to reveal the background. Removed areas on V1 appear black.
Transitions and previews
Select the outgoing V1 clip and use Transition to next clip to choose type, direction and duration. A next clip is required. Duration is 0.1–3 seconds and is shortened for a short next clip.
Effect preview demonstrates a blue-to-red transition. Apply effect to clip transfers the choice to the selected clip. Choose None to remove it.
Options include cross dissolve, black/white fades, wipe, slide and zoom. Transitions use the previous clip’s last frame and do not change total duration or audio timing.
Speed and microphone recording
Select video or audio, choose a speed from 0.25× to 4× under Playback speed, then Apply speed. Audio pitch is preserved. Conversion takes time and keeps the original media. Check nearby items after the duration changes.
To record, position the playhead, then open More tools → Open microphone recorder → Start recording. Allow microphone access. Stop and add places the recording at the playhead position used when recording began. Use Discard recording if you do not need it.
Multi-select and detached preview
Ctrl/Shift-click clips to select several, then use More tools for batch deletion, duplication or volume changes. Linked video and audio are handled together. Select the source clip before copying visual settings to a selection.
Detach preview opens a separate window. Return to editor, or Dock preview in the main window, restores it.
Save, transfer and relink
Save project creates a .cutroom file containing edits, not the media itself. Save at milestones instead of relying only on autosave. Use Open to resume.
For another PC, use More tools → Save with media to make a .cutroompack. On the destination, choose Open project with media. Packages may be large, so check free space.
Use Relink media when a source is missing or needs replacement. The replacement must cover the edited range. Review changes before confirming.
Export MP4 and GPU settings
Choose a 16:9, 9:16 or 1:1 aspect ratio and an HD, Full HD or 4K export resolution. Select Export MP4, wait for completion, then Save MP4. Keep the app open while processing.
V1 determines export length. Audio, titles or overlays extending beyond V1 do not extend the video. Check the ending before export.
Settings → GPU / CPU processing → Auto detects supported NVIDIA/Intel/AMD encoders. Unavailable or failed GPU processing falls back to CPU. Use CPU forces CPU mode. GPU mainly handles video encoding; effects compositing and audio still use CPU.
Shortcuts and troubleshooting
Space: play/stop. Ctrl+Z: undo. Ctrl+Y: redo. Delete: delete selected clip. Settings lets you keep 10–500 undo steps. History clears when the app closes.
No sound: check clip/master volume, Windows output device and playhead position. Hidden audio is not muted audio. Preview waiting: allow initial media preparation to finish and reduce other heavy work. You can compare CPU mode with Auto.
Cannot launch: confirm that the entire ZIP was extracted. The current build is unsigned and Windows protection settings may restrict launch. Do not make disabling protections a requirement.
Back up important original media. CUTROOM is under development and provided without warranty. Latest-EXE interaction, every GPU, and long/4K workloads have not all been verified.
